Selim Zühtü Efendi

Selim Zühtü Efendi was born in Şeki in 1850/51 (AH 1267). The schooling was at Medrese, the Islamic college. At about 29, in 1879/80, Selim Zühtü began work in Bursa, on a first salary of 190 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1879/80, places Selim Zühtü in Bursa as Rüsum-ı sitte Nezareti müzayede kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1881 give a second post, in Gemlik as Rüsum-ı sitte müdüriyeti muvassırlığı. Alongside, the lists for 1880 to 1886 give a second post, in Prilep as a customs official (Rüsumat Memuru). Alongside, the lists for 1885 to 1887 give a second post, in Kavak as Rüsumat idaresi memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1886/87 give a second post, in Şile as Rüsumat idaresi memuru. The last posts were in Seddülbahir from 1887 to 1893. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1880/81, 1886/87 and 1892/93 instead of a title. Few officials served in as many provinces; fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did.

Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 400 in 1882/83, as Rüsumat Memuru in Prilep, when 46 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1892/93.
