Life and register readings
Born in Harput in 1868/69 (AH 1285), Osman Nuri Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Jandarma bölük emini". Osman Nuri studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). Work began in 1891/92, at about 23. The first annual entry, for 1891/92, names Osman Nuri as Defter-i Hakanî kalemi mülazımı, with no place.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1891/92, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over three years the salaries add up to 8,400 kuruş, 58 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1893/94.
