Life and register readings
Mustafa Cemil Bey was born in Medina (Medine) in 1867/68 (AH 1284); the father's occupation was "Hicaz mevki kumandanı". Work began in Damascus (Şam) in 1888/89, at about 21, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1888/89, with Mustafa Cemil as Şam Mekteb-i İdadi-i Mülki müdürü in Damascus.
