Life and register readings
Born in Sarıyakup in 1861/62 (AH 1278), Mehmet Hulusi Efendi came from the İslam community; the father was a farmer (çiftçi). At about 26, in 1887/88, Mehmet Hulusi began work in Fatsa, on a first salary of 600 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, places Mehmet Hulusi in Fatsa as Fatsa Rüştiye Mektebi muallim-i evveli, where the entries run to 1895/96. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1897 give a second post, in Şebinkarahisar as Karahisar-ı Şarki Rüştiyesi başhocası.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 600 kuruş a month in 1887/88, in Fatsa, when 64 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over ten years pay ended where it began, at 600 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1896/97.
