Life and register readings
Mehmed Tevfik Efendi was born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1858/59 (AH 1275); the father's occupation was "Kınık eski rüsûmat müdürü". At about 16, in 1874/75, Mehmed Tevfik began work, on a first salary of 330 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1874/75, with Mehmed Tevfik as Millî Rüsûmat İdaresi kâtibi and no place named. The lists have no entry for 1883 to 1890. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1890/91.
