Life and register readings
Kerope Zeki Efendi was born in Harput in 1848/49 (AH 1265), into the Hristiyan community. At about 20, in 1869/70, Kerope Zeki began work. The annual lists begin in 1869/70, with Kerope Zeki as Vilayet muhasebe kalemi mülazımı and no place named. For 1872 to 1874 the lists have no entry. Next came Keban, Kemaliye (Eğin) and Arapgir from 1878 to 1888. Alongside, the lists for 1887 to 1889 give a second post, in Keban as Mal Muduru. The lists have no entry for 1894 to 1896. Alongside, the lists for 1893/94 give a second post, in Çemişgezek as Mal Muduru. The annual lists then follow Kerope Zeki to Ovacık in 1896/97. Alongside, the lists for 1904 to 1906 give a second post, in Harput as Tahsilat müfettişi. Alongside, the lists for 1905 to 1907 give a second post, in Arapgir as Tahsilat müfettişi. Six places in all, a number reached by fewer than 8 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.
Pay rose from 50 kuruş a month in 1870/71 to a peak of 600 in 1884/85, as Reji Muduru in Kemaliye, when two in three paid officials earned less. In all, 23 years of salary come to 127,320 kuruş, 1.1 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
