Life#
Ömer Lütfü Efendi was born in Kütahya in 1846/47 (AH 1263), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Ömer Lütfü began work in Kütahya in 1869/70, at about 22, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1876/77, with Ömer Lütfü as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Afyonkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Sahib). Next came a return to Kütahya, the birthplace, from 1877 to 1879, then Bilecik and Gediz from 1879 to 1885. The annual lists then follow Ömer Lütfü to Simav from 1885 to 1903. The last post was in Hudavendigar in 1903/04.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1876/77 to 500 in 1882/83, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Gediz, when 43 per cent of paid officials earned less.
