Life and register readings
Zeki Efendi was born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1870/71 (AH 1287); the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 18, in 1888/89, Zeki began work in Zor. The first annual entry, for 1888/89, places Zeki in Zor in the Zor Sancağı Muhasebe Kalemi. Alongside, the lists for 1889 to 1893 give a second post, in a post with no place named in the Cubul Memlehası Müdüriyeti Vezne Kitabeti.
