Mustafa Nuri Efendi

The life of Mustafa Nuri Efendi began in Ürgüp in 1841/42 (AH 1257); the father's occupation was "Konya naibi". Mustafa Nuri studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).

Work began in İzmit in 1858/59, at about 17. The first annual entry, for 1858/59, places Mustafa Nuri in İzmit as Telgrafhane mülazımı. At the same time, from 1859 to 1862, the lists also place Mustafa Nuri in Mudurnu as Telgraf kadransı memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1861 to 1865 give a second post, in Ankara as Telgrafhane mühabere memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1864 to 1867 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Telgraf Muduru, with a rise to Telgraf Muduru. For 1867 to 1882 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1866/67 give a second post, in Nablus as Telgraf Muduru. The last entry, for 1882/83, names Mustafa Nuri as Nüfus İdare-i Umumiyesi memuru, with no place.

The salary went from 500 kuruş a month in 1859/60 to 1,250 in 1864/65, the peak, as Telgraf Muduru, when 78 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, nine years of salary come to 82,800 kuruş, 1.7 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1882/83.
