Mehmet Bey

Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Mehmet Bey was born in Sivas in 1847/48 (AH 1264); the father's occupation was "askeri". Work began in 1867/68, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1867/68, places Mehmet in Erzurum as telgraf stajyeri. The last entry, for 1868/69, names Mehmet as an official of a telegraph or post office (Merkez Memuru), with no place. The lists have no entry for 1869 to 1903. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1903/04.

The one salary in the lists is 400 kuruş a month, for 1868/69, when 40 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1903/04.

Places in order of time

Each number is a stop: the birthplace, the place of first work, then every place of the annual entries in turn. The year beside an arrow is the first entry at the new place.
