Life and register readings
Mustafa Efendi was born in Mahsün, Ürgüp in 1851/52 (AH 1268); the father was a merchant (tüccar). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
At about 23, in 1875/76, Mustafa began work in Thessaloniki (Selanik). The first annual entry, for 1875/76, places Mustafa in Thessaloniki as Rüsumat Nezareti muhasebe kalemi mülazımı. Alongside, the lists for 1875 to 1878 give a second post, in Karaburun as Mahkeme başkâtibi. For 1878 to 1880 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Izmir (İzmir) from 1880 to 1886.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 465 kuruş a month in 1875/76, in Karaburun, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1885/86.
