Life and register readings
Mehmet Tevfik Efendi was born in Ürgüp in 1846/47 (AH 1263). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi). At about 17, in 1864/65, Mehmet Tevfik began work. The first annual entry, for 1864/65, names Mehmet Tevfik as Defter-i Hakanî Senedat Kalemi memuru, with no place. For 1865 to 1873 the lists have no entry. Mehmet Tevfik then moved to Izmir (İzmir) from 1873 to 1881. Alongside, the lists for 1880 to 1884 give a second post, in a post with no place named as a district governor (Kaymakam), with a rise to Kaymakam. Alongside, the lists for 1883/84 give a second post, in Bergama as Kaymakam.
