Life and register readings
The life of Mehmet Hilmi Efendi began in Kütahya in 1854/55 (AH 1271). Work began in Kütahya in 1871/72, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1871/72, places Mehmet Hilmi in Kütahya, the birthplace, as Defter-i Hakani Kalemi mülazımı. Next came Eskişehir from 1872 to 1877. Alongside, the lists for 1876/77 give a second post, in Gediz as Aşar başkâtibi. The annual lists then follow Mehmet Hilmi to Uşak from 1877 to 1880.
