Life and register readings
The life of Ömer Lütfi Efendi began in Varna in 1841/42 (AH 1257). Work began in Varna in 1855/56, at about 15, on a first salary of 15 kuruş. Pay rose from 15 kuruş a month in 1855/56 to a peak of 750 in 1865/66, in Constanța, when 69 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1884/85.
