Mehmed Emin Efendi

The life of Mehmed Emin Efendi began in Gelibolu; the father's occupation was "Tenekeci". Work began in Gelibolu in 1869/70 (AH 1286). The annual lists begin in 1869/70, with Mehmed Emin as Rüsumat Müdüriyeti Kalemi mülazımı in Gelibolu, the birthplace. Next came Keşan, Gelibolu and Şarköy from 1876 to 1881, then a return to Gelibolu from 1883 to 1898, with a rise to Aşar başkâtibi. At the same time, from 1897/98, the lists also place Mehmed Emin in Komotini (Gümülcine) as Muhasebe Kalemi başkâtibi. Mehmed Emin then moved to Yozgat from 1898 to 1905, with a rise to Muhasebeci in 1898/99. Alongside, the lists for 1904 to 1907 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Muhasebeci. Alongside, the lists for 1906 to 1911 give a second post, in Amasya as Muhasebeci. Alongside, the lists for 1910/11 give a second post, in Aydın as Muhasebeci. Few officials served in as many places; fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did. Entries spanning 43 years are rare, reached by fewer than 4 per cent of the 8,239 officials.

Pay rose from 235 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to a peak of 3,000 in 1910/11, as Muhasebeci in Aydın, when 95 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1910/11.
