Life and register readings
Mehmed Ziyâeddin Efendi was born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1870/71 (AH 1287); the father's occupation was "Kavas". The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in 1882/83, at about 13. Fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known began work at 13 or younger. The first annual entry, for 1882/83, names Mehmed Ziyâeddin as Muhasebe Kalemi mülazımı, with no place, with a rise to Cetvel mukayyidliği refakati in 1889/90.
