Life and register readings

Mustafa Hilmi Efendi was born in Bursa in 1859/60 (AH 1276), into the İslam community. The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).

At about 16, in 1876/77, Mustafa Hilmi began work. The annual lists begin in 1876/77, with Mustafa Hilmi as Bascavus and no place named. For 1877 to 1880 the lists have no entry. Mustafa Hilmi then moved to Bursa in 1880/81. The last entries, from 1882 to 1891, name Mustafa Hilmi as Gemlik kazası vergi kitâbeti refâkatinde, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1886 to 1888. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1888/89 and Infisal for 1890/91.

The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1882/83 to 500 in 1889/90, the peak, when 56 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1890/91.
