Mehmet Said Efendi

The life of Mehmet Said Efendi began in Bosna in 1864/65 (AH 1281); the father's occupation was "Asakir-i Şahane kolağası". Work began in Bitola (Manastır) in 1879/80, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1879/80, places Mehmet Said in Bitola as Telgrafhane mülazımı, where the entries run to 1883/84. At the same time, from 1883 to 1886, the lists also place Mehmet Said in Elbasan (İlbasan) as Telgraf merkezi muhabere memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1885 to 1895 give a second post, in Tirana as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). Alongside, the lists for 1889 to 1891 give a second post, in Ohrid as Muhabere Memuru. Alongside, the lists for 1895/96 give a second post, in Tirana as Telgraf merkezi muhabere memuru. Mehmet Said then moved to Elbasan from 1898 to 1906. Alongside, the lists for 1905/06 give a second post, in Mise as Telgraf ve Posta Merkezi müdürü.

The salary went from 285 kuruş a month in 1883/84 to 500 in 1905/06, the peak, in Mise, when 52 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 23 years the salaries add up to 98,280 kuruş, 88 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
