Life and register readings
Mehmet Selim Efendi was born in Sivas; the father's occupation was "yazıcı". The schooling was at Medrese, the Islamic college. Work began in 1858/59 (AH 1275), on a first salary of 37.5 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1858/59, with Mehmet Selim as nüfus mukayyidi and no place named. Next came Hafik in 1860/61, then a return to Sivas, the birthplace, from 1861 to 1887. For 1862 to 1868 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1878 give a second post, in Pınarbaşı as kaymakam vekili.
