Life and register readings
The life of Mahmud Cevad Bey began in Antakya in 1871/72 (AH 1288); the father's occupation was "Teke Sancağı Mutasarrıfı". Mahmud Cevad began work in Aleppo (Halep) in 1897/98, at about 26, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1897/98, with Mahmud Cevad as Vilayet Maiyet Memuru in Aleppo, where the entries run to 1899/1900. The lists have no entry for 1900 to 1904.
