Life and register readings
Born in Aleppo (Halep) in 1853/54 (AH 1270) into the Keldani Hristiyan community, Yasef Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). The schooling was at a community school (Millet Mektebi).
Yasef began work in Mosul (Musul) in 1872/73, at about 18. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with Yasef as Musul Telgrafhanesi memuru in Mosul, where the entries run to 1881/82. Alongside, the lists for 1881 to 1900 give a second post, in Nasiriyah as Nasıriye Merkezi Telgraf Müdüriyeti şefi.
