Life and register readings
Born in Bursa in 1824/25 (AH 1240), Mahmud Hamdi Efendi came from the İslam community. Mahmud Hamdi studied at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
The first annual entry, for 1864/65, places Mahmud Hamdi in Bursa, the birthplace, as behişt makam-ı selâtin-i azâm ve mülhakâtı vesa'ir hayrât ve evkaf-ı şerife umur ve muâmelâtının tesviyesi hizmeti, where the entries run to 1884/85. At the same time, from 1884 to 1893, the lists also place Mahmud Hamdi in a post with no place named as idâre-i mezkûre baş kitâbeti. For 1893 to 1896 the lists have no entry. The lists give Vefat (death) for 1896/97 instead of a title.
