Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Said Efendi began in Pristina (Priştine) in 1828/29 (AH 1244). The schooling was at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in 1850/51, at about 22, on a first salary of 1,000 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1858/59, places Mehmed Said in Celebipazari as Kaza Muduru, where the entries run to 1860/61. Mehmed Said then moved to Sjenica (Seniçe) from 1861 to 1863. The lists have no entry for 1863 to 1876. The last entry, for 1876/77, names Mehmed Said as a district governor (Kaymakam), with no place. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1860/61, 1862/63 and 1876/77.
The salary went from 1,000 kuruş a month in 1858/59 to 2,500 in 1876/77, the peak, as Kaymakam, when 92 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over six years the salaries add up to 94,800 kuruş, 2.8 times what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1876/77.
