Life and register readings
Born in Kırşehir in 1856/57 (AH 1273) into the İslam community, Mehmed Recep Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). The first annual entry, for 1875/76, places Mehmed Recep in Kırşehir, the birthplace, as Zabit Katibi, where the entries run to 1881/82. Next came Kırşehir and Avanos from 1889 to 1896. For 1886 to 1889, 1890 to 1892 and 1893 to 1895 the lists have no entry. At the same time, from 1895/96, the lists also place Mehmed Recep in a post with no place named as ziraat bankası sandığı muhasebe katibi.
