Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Ataullah Efendi began in Drama in 1858/59 (AH 1275). Work began in 1875/76, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1875/76, names Mehmed Ataullah as a candidate official (Mülazım), with no place. At the same time, from 1879 to 1882, the lists also place Mehmed Ataullah in Kavala as sandık emini. Alongside, the lists for 1881 to 1883 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Mülazım. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1885 give a second post, in Kavala as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1890 give a second post, in a post with no place named as masarifat katibi. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1879/80 and 1881/82.
Pay rose from 500 kuruş a month in 1876/77 to a peak of 750 in 1877/78, when 70 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 360 kuruş. Over 13 years pay ended below where it began, 450 kuruş against 500. The last annual entry is for 1889/90.
