Life#
İsmail Hakkı Efendi was born in Edirne in 1884/85 (AH 1302), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Basmudur". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İsmail Hakkı also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Edirne in 1902/03, at about 17, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. From 1902/03 to 1906/07 every annual entry places İsmail Hakkı in Edirne, the birthplace, first as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), from 1904/05 in the correspondence office (Tahrirat Kalemi).
