Life#
Born in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1863/64 (AH 1280), Osman Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Thessaloniki in 1882/83, at about 19, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1882/83, with Osman in the sorting room (Tefrik Odası) in Thessaloniki, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1900/01, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru) in 1890/91.
