Life#
Hasan Tahsin Efendi was born in Rusya in 1856/57 (AH 1273), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Hasan Tahsin began work in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1879/80, at about 23, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 285 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1882/83, with Hasan Tahsin as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Thessaloniki, where the entries run to 1888/89. Hasan Tahsin then moved to Ödemiş from 1889 to 1901, with a rise to travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur). The last posts were in Thessaloniki in 1901/02 and Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç) from 1902 to 1904.
