Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1876/77 (AH 1293), Mehmet Selahattin Bey came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi); Mehmet Selahattin also wrote Armenian as well as Turkish.
At about 17, in 1893/94, Mehmet Selahattin began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 50 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1893/94, to 1904/05, every annual entry places Mehmet Selahattin in the same office, accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
