Life#
Mehmet İzzet Efendi was born in Nablus in 1887/88 (AH 1305) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was an official (memur). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet İzzet also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Nablus in 1905/06, at about 17, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1906/07, to 1908/09, every annual entry places Mehmet İzzet in the same post, postal official (Posta Memuru), in Nablus, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1906/07, as Posta Memuru in Nablus, when one in four paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
