Life#
Mehmet Necati Efendi was born in Skopje (Üsküp) in 1875/76 (AH 1292) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Necati also wrote Turkish and spoke Bulgarian.
At about 25, in 1900/01, Mehmet Necati began work in Skopje, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1903/04, with Mehmet Necati as a postal official (Posta Memuru) in Skopje, the birthplace. Mehmet Necati then moved to Prizren from 1904 to 1909. The last posts were in Skopje in 1909/10 and Kosova in 1910/11.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1903/04 to a peak of 600 in 1904/05, as Posta Memuru in Prizren, when two in three paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1910/11. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahval Kayıtlarına göre Üsküp doğumlu memurlar" by HALENUR DİLOĞLU (2021) probably refers to Mehmet Necati, since the name, the birthplace and a place of service agree.
