Life#
Born in Prizren in 1882/83 (AH 1300), Ali Rıza Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ali Rıza also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Ali Rıza began work in Skopje (Üsküp) in 1901/02, at about 18, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1903/04, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Ali Rıza in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Skopje.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Muhabere Memuru in Skopje, when 14 per cent of paid officials earned less.
