Life#
Mehmet Şükrü Efendi was born in Prizren in 1879/80 (AH 1297), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Şükrü also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1895/96, Mehmet Şükrü began work in Prizren, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 140 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1898/99 to 1903/04 places Mehmet Şükrü in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Prizren, the birthplace.
