Life#
This official was born in Prizren in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 19, in 1892/93, the official began work in Kriva Palanka (Eğri Palanka), with nine unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Of the 5,142 officials with a known apprenticeship, fewer than 2 per cent worked unpaid for nine years or longer. The first annual entry, for 1901/02, places the official in Novi Pazar (Yenipazar) as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1903/04. The last post was in Kočani (Koçana) in 1904/05.
