Life#
Born in Prizren in 1863/64 (AH 1280) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, this official was the child of a sheikh (şeyh). The official had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Prizren in 1878/79, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1884/85, places the official in Kosova as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The annual lists then follow the official to seven places in 18 years, from Ferizaj (Firzovik) to Gusinje (Gusinye), with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1900/01. The last posts were in Skopje again from 1903 to 1905.
The salary went from 500 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to 600 in 1893/94, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Berat, when 60 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 21 years pay ended where it began, at 500 kuruş; fewer than 7 per cent of the 2,010 officials paid for 15 years or more ended as low. In all, 21 years of salary come to 116,400 kuruş, about what an official on the median salary earned in those years. After the last annual entry, for 1904/05, the list of 1905/06 (AH 1323) gives the status word Vefat (death).
