Life#
Born in Prizren in 1861/62 (AH 1278) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İsmail Efendi was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Shkodër (İşkodra) in 1883/84, at about 22, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1892/93, with İsmail as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Elbasan (İlbasan), where the entries run to 1895/96. İsmail then moved to Ohrid (Ohri) and Gosnicka from 1896 to 1899, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1897/98. The last posts were in Zadrima from 1899 to 1907.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to 500 in 1897/98, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Gosnicka, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
