Life#
Osman Fehim Efendi was born in Eleşkirt in 1881/82 (AH 1299), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took nine years, at a preparatory secondary school (İdadi Mektebi); Osman Fehim also wrote French as well as Turkish.
At about 21, in 1903/04, Osman Fehim began work in Erzurum, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1907/08 and 1908/09, place Osman Fehim in Erzurum as a postal official (Posta Memuru).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1907/08, as Posta Memuru in Erzurum, when 28 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
