Life

Born in Eleşkirt in 1878 (AH 1295), Yusuf Ziya Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Yusuf Ziya had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 19, in 1897/98, Yusuf Ziya began work in Eleskirt, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1902/03 and 1903/04, place Yusuf Ziya in Erzincan as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhabere Memuru in Erzincan, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1903/04.
