Life#
Born in Hersek in 1889/90 (AH 1307), Hasan Zülfikar Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Hasan Zülfikar had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Yalova in 1906/07, at about 16, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1907/08 and 1908/09, place Hasan Zülfikar in Yalova as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 100 kuruş a month in 1907/08, as Muhabere Memuru in Yalova, when 4 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1908/09. An entry in "II. Abdülhamid Dönemi Bosna-Hersekli devlet adamları" by DİLEK AKDEMİR (2018) probably refers to Hasan Zülfikar, since the name and the birthplace agree. Hasan Zülfikar probably has an entry in "Sicill-i Ahvâl defterlerine göre Hersek doğumlu Osmanlı devlet memurları" by GÖKÇE YANARDAĞ (2024) (the name and the birthplace agree).
