Life

Born in Istanbul in 1848/49 (AH 1265), Hüseyin Sabri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was an accounts official (muhasebe memuru). Hüseyin Sabri had nine years of schooling, at the House of Education (Darülmaarif).

At about 14, in 1862/63, Hüseyin Sabri began work in the Mahsubat Kalemi, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 20 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1911, names neither a title nor a place for Hüseyin Sabri.

The annual entries give no salary. The final annual entry is for 1912/13. The honours of Hüseyin Sabri were a rank (rütbe) and the Mecidi and Osmani orders.
