Born in Istanbul in 1887/88 (AH 1305), Süleyman Rasif Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a postal official (posta memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Süleyman Rasif also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
