Life#
Born in Ioannina (Yanya) in 1884/85 (AH 1302), Mehmet Arif Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was an army captain (yüzbaşı). Mehmet Arif had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Turkish and spoke Greek (Rum).
At about 24, in 1909/10, Mehmet Arif began work in Korçë (Görice), paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1909/10, places Mehmet Arif in Korçë as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last post was in Louros (Loros) in 1911.
