Life#
Born in Vize in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Ahmet Hayrettin Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a district governor or lieutenant colonel (kaymakam). Ahmet Hayrettin had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Crete (Girit) in 1893/94, at about 19, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1893/94, places Ahmet Hayrettin in Crete as an official for written correspondence (Muharrerat Memuru). Next came İzmit, Sjenica (Seniçe) and Prijepolje (Prepol) from 1894 to 1905, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in 1894/95. The lists have no entry for 1895 to 1902. The last post was in Nova Varoš (Yenivaroş) in 1905/06.
