Life and register readings
Mehmed Said Efendi was born in Kırşehir in 1868/69 (AH 1285); the father's occupation was "Redif yüzbaşı". Work began in 1887/88, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, places Mehmed Said in Kastamonu as Mülazım (telgraf), where the entries run to 1891/92. At the same time, from 1891 to 1903, the lists also place Mehmed Said in a post with no place named as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), with a rise to Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye memuru in 1895/96. The lists have no entry for 1896 to 1902.
Pay rose from 285 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to a peak of 500 in 1902/03, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1902/03.
