Life#
Recep Vehbi Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1884/85 (AH 1302), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Tatlibasisi". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Recep Vehbi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1900/01, at about 16, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1902/03, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Recep Vehbi in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
