Life#
Ahmet Hamdi Efendi was born in Bilecik in 1888/89 (AH 1306) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Hamdi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Ahmet Hamdi began work in Bilecik in 1906/07, at about 17, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1906/07 to 1908/09 places Ahmet Hamdi in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Bilecik, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1906/07, as Muhabere Memuru in Bilecik, when one in ten paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
