Life#
Born in Preveza (Preveze) in 1879/80 (AH 1297) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ahmet Nuri Efendi was the child of a director (müdür). Ahmet Nuri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 23, in 1903/04, Ahmet Nuri began work in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Palas, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1903/04, places Ahmet Nuri in Palas as Nahiye Memuru. The lists have no entry for 1904 to 1906. The last posts were in Zlatograd in 1906/07, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) and Kardzhali (Kırcaali) in 1907/08.
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1903/04 to 250 in 1906/07, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Zlatograd, when 15 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 7,800 kuruş, 53 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
