Life#
Hafız Süleyman Şükrü Efendi was born in Eğirdir in 1865/66 (AH 1282), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Süleyman Şükrü also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Süleyman Şükrü began work in Egridir in 1880/81, at about 16, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1886/87, with Süleyman Şükrü as a central office official (Merkez Memuru) in Pozantı. The last posts were in Adana and Niksar from 1888 to 1894 and Zakho (Zaho) from 1894 to 1896.
