Life#
Born in Debrei bala in 1882/83 (AH 1300), Kanber Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Kanber had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Strumica (Ustrumca) in 1897/98, at about 15, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1902/03, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Kanber in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Strumica.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhabere Memuru in Strumica, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, four years of salary come to 14,400 kuruş, 63 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
