Life#
Mehmet Şükrü Efendi was born in Yozgat in 1887/88 (AH 1305) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a director (müdür). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 16, in 1904/05, Mehmet Şükrü began work in Kayseri, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1904/05, places Mehmet Şükrü in Kayseri as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). Mehmet Şükrü then moved back to Yozgat, the birthplace, from 1906 to 1909. The last post was in Kayseri again in 1909/10.
